Volunteer

PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

The Tashirat Volunteer Program offers spiritual aspirants the opportunity to live in the beautiful Tashirat Ashram setting, as well as receive classes and guidance in exchange for service work. Volunteers serve mainly in the areas of cultivation, maintenance, and sustainable development six hours a day, six days a week. Our volunteer program is ideal of service oriented individuals seeking strength, clarity and inspiration on their chosen path. Volunteers who take full advantage of the opportunities offered in Tashirat are able to deepen their practice and enter and intensive experience that can be quite life transforming.

We are confident that if you enjoy nature, learning, expanding your horizons and giving your all through service work you will have a wonderful experience with us. Many volunteers come back to visit on a regular basis and consider Tashirat a home away from home.

There are many areas of service in Tashirat – childcare, tutoring (if fluent in Spanish), workshops and sports with the children of the Tashirat Orphanage or Ixaya School, general maintenance, cleaning and cultivation.  Experience in the above areas is preferred, but as long as you are an exceptionally willing and positive worker we can use your help! Please let us know if you have any special talents or skills that you would like to share.

Volunteers serve in any areas needed six hours of a day, six days a week and are required to attend morning Yoga classes and afternoon Meditations five days a week.  We offer access to our extensive English library and additional guidance in Nutrition, Yoga, Meditation, and the Chakra Life Lessons through written communication with Tashirat teachers.

The minimum stay we require is one month, but we recommend that volunteers to stay three to six months. The longer the stay, the more one receives from the experience. One month flies by very quickly. After the initial month, approved volunteers who stay longer may work five days a week, using the extra free day for independent studies.

Volunteers must be forthright and independent, with the confidence to ask for what they need and the skills to take care of themselves in a foreign country. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Although we accept 5 – 8 volunteers at a time, there may be no other volunteers at the time of your stay. Please inquire if you’d like to know who will be here, and if you think you may feel lonely, bring another volunteer with you.
