Tashirat Article in Yoga +
Blanca on telas
Last May a journalist, Kristin Barendsen, from Yoga Plus Joyful Living Magazine, paid us a visit and stayed at our Ashram for one week. She wrote an article about Tashirat which you can find on newsstands in the US after April 8th. Thank you Kristin for writing such a beautiful article and Yoga Plus Joyful Living for giving us an opportunity to be featured in your magazine.
Education
Tashirat School
Our other exciting news is that we're opening a school for all of our children this upcoming school year. I know we've given similar news about a special education school project, but this is different. Since all of our children (including our many special education children) will be able to attend this school, in addition to many outside children from poor surrounding areas, this is a more ambitious project and superior in many ways. There's so much we could say about this project, of which we are so enthused, but it's all on our website. Please visit our school website to find out more. www.ixayaschool.com
(This is a temporary website, please excuse its appearance, we are in the process of developing a new one).
We are hoping that the school will be able to be fully supported by private donations. We are running a campaign enlisting the help of 500 people to donate $20USD a month to help pay for teachers' salaries, children's meals (we're going to be providing all children in need with three meals a day) and basic school expenses. We are in the process of developing a website for this campaign that we will send to you as soon as it's up. In the meantime, if you would like to be 1 of 500, please go to Ixaya School website at www.ixayaschool.com and choose the $20 monthly donation feature. You will receive confirmation that you are 1 in 500 helping us to make this happen!
Who we are aiming to help
On a more serious note, a woman whose family we've Babyknown for a very long time came to our doorstep asking us to take her infant granddaughter. The mother of the child could no longer take care of her and they didn't have the means to either. When Thiara visited the family's house to see the infant ,she was shocked to see how pathetically tiny and thin the little baby was.
The baby is approximately two months old and only weighs 3 pounds! We moved all of the legal paperwork as soon as possible to save this little baby's life. After arriving at the children's welfare offices(DIF), the baby was immediately rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with severe malnourishment and dehydration.
When the social workers saw the other two daughters Julietta(ages 4 and 6), they asked the young mother if she wanted to voluntarily give them to us too. She readily agreed and the girls unexpectedly arrived on our doorstep the same day. The one night they slept with us, they refused to go to the bathroom, pointing outside to the bushes. Their dirt-floor "home" has no bathroom, no electricity and no running water.
Early the next morning, the grandmother arrived frantically searching for the 4 and 6 year olds , considerably upset about what had happened. The family expected the new born to enter our care, but not the 4 and 6 year old of whom they had grown so attached. With great difficulty we explained that since it was all legally done through the DIF, we now had to ask them what procedures to take in order to return the girls to their home.Blanca on telas
When we called the DIF legal department they adamantly refused to return the girls to such impoverished living conditions.Currently the three girls are in the DIF and we are doing everything in our power to assist the family in the improvement of their living conditions. The lawyers loved the idea that we expressed about the children attending our school and thought that this would increase the feasibilityof them being returnedto their family.
It's hard to remember the state in which our children arrived and their sad backgrounds. This was a heart-wrenching reminder for all of us.
We are still hoping to receive the baby in the near future.
We thank you all for helping us touch more lives every year. The visible results will be seen when these children grow and touch so many more lives. We are raising outstanding human beings who will some day reach out with open hearts and extend a helping hand to so many others. Bear in mind that each individual who we affect positively, will in turn affect others in a similar manner.
With but seven staff and one provisional staff member in Tashirat, we never feel that our work makes even the most diminutive dent in the widespread suffering on Earth. However, each one of us can only give what we're capable of giving. Please help us to make this a better planet, a happier and healthier world for so many suffering souls, who without a helping hand, are unable to exit their dark black hole of a life.
Love,
Kaisha and Artimia
